Attention Residents of Des Moines

This week has been difficult, what with all the storms and the flooding in the Des Moines area (not to mention in other parts of the state). We recognize the hardships that you have endured with the flooded roads, the water in your basements, and the lack of boating opportunities on all area lakes.

We, the friendly webmasters at your Des Moines city government web page, have been working long and hard to provide you up-to-date information about road closings, events that have been rescheduled, and general flood news.

As part of our efforts to ensure you the best possible Des Moines city government website, we have hired an artist to create a symbol of what is sure to be known as the Floods of 2008. This icon represents our best creative endeavor, something to help you navigate not only our home page, but also the tides of the brand new lake that has taken over our once attractive downtown.

We trust that you will appreciate and enjoy this lovely artwork as you rip the carpet out of your basements, take the new pontoon taxi to work, and pay ridiculous costs for what little food hasn’t been drowned in the fields this summer.

P.S. Perhaps you could print this lovely icon and keep it in your scrapbooks for years to come. What a memory!

  1. well, i don’t know about you, but if i was a des moines resident, i would feel so appreciative that someone took the time to make that icon just for me. :-/

    oy. that’s rather pathetic. sigh…

  2. This makes me sad. I have no clue how I’m getting to work. Every route is flooded…I think. I feel bad for everyone that’s effected by this.

  3. I think they should have drawn a gigantic wave crashing down on Des Moines, with people running and screaming trying to get out of the way. That would have been better!

  4. Just one more of a billion things wrong with our government – they waste so much money restating the obvious (there’s a flood? really?), when they should be providing hope for the devastated population of “New Venice”.

As part of the green initiative, we had “Bike to Work May”, so I think it’s reasonable to tout this disaster as “Paddle to Work June”. This logo could work, I think –
But then, that would just be another problem with government – turning their back on the obvious problems…sheesh.
