another day
living with pain
the stairs a mountain
my clothing a torture device

i walk as someone twice my age
as i carry my baby
and i wonder what people think

beauty from pain
is a beautiful idea
until the pain is in my joints
until it is exhausting to stand up
until i start to feel consumed by it

but oh, His pain
His agony borne for no fault of His
His cross– my cross
nails driven through flesh and bone

anguish and horror
hanging there
to save me from pain

i hobble to Him
in all my deep need
and He bears my grief, my sorrow

and one day
i will run to Him
and i will never hurt again

  1. wow… dude… that was powerful. i know that i can relate, maybe in different ways, but definitely relate.

i noticed the walk to cure diabetes image in your sidebar as well. i just got done with our walk here in sarasota, fl last weekend. my son (now seven) was diagnosed when he was 17-months old. for me that is the pain that i relate when i read this.

    thank you.

  2. Is this your arthritis?
    I can’t even imagine.

I’ve had the odd this and that, a bout a back issue years ago, etc.
Chronic pain is a whole different kind of heavy. Foggy, frustrating, spins a web of ugly, heavy.

    prayers to you.

  3. it is so hard to not physically be who we know we are emotionally.

i have suffered various pains over the years. i’m grateful that God allows me to grow compassion for others, BUT it does wear on me too.

i rejoice with you that this body is a temporary home, some day we will be made new! i too can’t wait for that.
