us, together

we walk side by side,
stand and talk,
sit and be silent.

are you thinking
what I’m thinking?
it doesn’t matter.

each of us knows
the other is there.
always. so we vowed.

the years move by
and we move within;
together for good.

love grows; even when
money shrinks;
hair turns gray.

of all the people
in all the world,
so glad I found you.

Someone’s above–
brought us together;
keeps us that way.

life isn’t pretty,
always; but you and I
are a beautiful thing.

Written for Carry on Tuesday’s prompt to use all or some of the following quote in a poem or work of prose: “We are each the love of someone’s life” (from The Confessions of Max Tivoli by Andrew Sean Greer, 2004). Click the link for more poems!
