What a fun weekend our family has had. Just so enjoyable.
(It’s kind of hard to tell in this picture, because it’s not straight-on from the back, but her hair was styled in a star. I got the idea and instructions here at Girly Do’s by Jenn.
Small Town, where we used to live and where we still go to church, had its annual fireworks display on Sunday night. So after the evening service at church, we hung around with some friends for a picnic and fun until it was time for the fireworks to start.
We ate good food.
And enjoyed good fellowship.
The kids played with bubbles. This is Squeezy’s “bubble face,” which she makes when you get ready to blow bubbles at her. It cracks me up.
And the grown-ups played bocce ball.
(I have no idea what’s going on in this picture. I did not actually play and have no idea how bocce ball works.)
Squeezy got a push in the swing from a little cutie from our church.
It got darker, and we busted out the red, white, and blue cupcakes.
(This was the last time she was happy for the night. Once the fireworks started she was absolutely terrified. We were so glad to be at the church. Art took her inside and rocked her in the nursery for the duration.)
And I got Awesome Mom street cred by providing my children with glowing beverages.
(Two cups, one smaller and made of clear plastic inside the larger one, with a glow stick in between. Mine didn’t glow that brightly because I had cheap dollar store glow sticks, but everyone thought I was all kinds of amazing anyway.)
Then we had some fun setting things on fire.
(That’s his “I’m-totally-hyped-up-on-sugar-and-staying-up-late-and-playing-with-fire” face.)
Finally it was time for the fireworks to begin.
(Apparently there is a smudge on my lens.) The kids had so much fun watching them. Seriously, it cracked me up. I love doing things like this with my munchkins.
This is from the grand finale.
After the fireworks, we packed up our hyper sons, our hysterical daughter, and all of our belongings (except a pack of gum which got lost in the shuffle) and headed home. But there was more fun to come.
Yesterday we went to some friends’ farm for a little shindig.
I think the boys think their farm is heaven on earth. They have swings.
And a trampoline.
Who doesn’t love a trampoline?
And Squeezy was a fan of all the extra attention.
(This is one of the youth group girls from our church. She is part of the Squeezy Girl Fan Club. And also, yes, Squeezy does have juicy thighs. And yes. I do squeeze them a lot.)
We enjoyed some of the best. chicken. ever. on the grill.
And I got my Betty Crocker on and made flag rice krispy treats.
(Squeezy does not like them. What’s up with that? What kid doesn’t like rice krispy treats? Apparently mine.)
The best part of the day, though, at least for the kids, was the pool.
They stayed in for a really long time.
They got these water shooters from the Dollar Tree and had a lot of fun shooting unsuspecting people with them.
And of course Miss Squeezy enjoyed some quality time with Daddy.
(She kept saying “I go in da wadda? I get wet? Oh! Spashy spashy!”)
Eventually Mean Old Mom said it was time to head for home, so we loaded the van back up and changed back into our clothes and off we went. But not without a pit stop on the way.
Apparently he drank half the pool.
When we got home, we were all just plain tired. The kids watched a movie, I edited pictures, and Art mowed the lawn. Then we had frozen pizza for dinner and the munchkins went to bed early. So it was kind of anticlimactic, really. But it was such a fun weekend.
Did I mention that?
Because it was a fun weekend.
And now it’s time to face the week. 🙂
